To establish the procedure for awarding a salary increase to regular non-exempt clerical-secretarial and clerical management staff who pass the Certified Professional Secretary Examination (CPSE).
Who is affected:
Any regular non-exempt employee who performs clerical-secretarial or clerical management duties or who is classified as clerical/secretarial. Employees may contact HR-compensation to determine if they are eligible for the increase.
Employees who enroll in any non-credit CPSE preparatory course are responsible for the costs associated with the course, including any books, fees, or other expenses. Time off to take the CPSE is charged to annual leave or to leave without pay. Employees are also responsible for the processing fee and examination fee when they sit for the test.
Employees can apply to the career development fund for a reimbursement for the cost of taking the test. This application can be submitted only once, before the date of the employee’s first sitting for the test.
Employees who pass all parts of the CPSE should submit through appropriate supervisory channels to Human Resources (HR) proof of their passing scores. The department should process a pay funding change to award the salary increase effective on the first day of the month following notification to HR.
The designated salary increase shall be granted even in circumstances where the salary increase would cause the employee to reach or exceed the maximum for their salary range. Document of the successful scores for all three parts will be placed in the employee’s personnel file.
New hires who already have passed the CPSE are not eligible for the nine-percent adjustment.
