UT is committed to promoting a safe environment for minors attending summer camps, educational workshops, cultural events and programs such as 4-H. Training is a key provision of UT’s policy on programs for minors.
All employees who meet the policy’s definition of a “program director” or “covered adult” must undergo training on preventing, recognizing, reporting and addressing child abuse once every two years.
How to Fulfill the Training Requirement
Individual UT Employees
Complete the “Child Protection Training for Covered Adults” online training module in K@TE, the learning management system. This is the preferred option for UT employees.
How to Access Training for Employees
- Log into K@TE.
- Search for “Child Protection Training for Covered Adults” in the upper-right search field.
- Click “Request.”
- Begin your training!
- Be sure to allow popups.
External Users (including volunteers, contractors, students, student workers, and grad students)
Access Child Protection Training for External Users. Be sure to know the name of your program/program affiliation, departmental account number, and the program coordinator’s name.

Questions or concerns about Child Protection Training should be referred to Kelley Gober (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Questions about technical problems, such as Java or browser updates, should be directed to your department’s IT professional or to the OIT helpdesk at your campus.
How Training is Tracked and Recorded
We record completions in IRIS. In order to track compliance on this requirement, we must keep training records up-to-date.
