Service and Recognition

Recognizing our staff and faculty members’ many contributions is critical to their sense of engagement and satisfaction. We encourage leaders at all levels take the time to reach out and offer a simple “thank you” for a job well done. If you could benefit from a quick coaching session in how to do effective recognition or would like to brainstorm around creating opportunities for employee recognition, please call us!  Human Resources also sponsors several opportunities for the campus area to recognize individual and team contributions to our mission.

Service Awards

Service Awards are designed to recognize our regular faculty and staff for their dedicated service to the university. Employees reaching five years of service will receive a certificate in a Lucite frame and a lapel pin with the UT seal. Further awards are provided in five-year increments beginning with the tenth year of regular service. You will be contacted by our service award provider around the time of your service anniversary date to select an award.

Please use the links below to select your area of service and to see a special message from your administrator. Gift choices are the same for each area, and ordering instructions will be provided by our service award provider when you are contacted for gift selection.

Employees with more than 25 years of service are invited to either a fall or spring service awards luncheon hosted by the president and campus chancellors. The luncheon date depends on an employee’s anniversary dates. January through June recipients will be honored at a spring luncheon and July through December recipients will be honored at a fall luncheon. Honorees are invited at five-year increments beginning with the 25th year of service.

Employees with 50 or more years of service will receive the Joe Johnson Lifetime Achievement Award. This special award is presented at the luncheon by the president.

Positive Recognition Awards

Make someone feel special by acknowledging his or her hard work, excellent customer service, and superior job performance. Nominate a coworker for one of the university’s positive recognition awards. All winners are selected by the Positive Recognition Committee.

Positive Recognition Committee

The Positive Recognition Committee began as an ad hoc committee in April 1993. In 1998, the committee was established as one of the university’s administrative committees. The committee’s mission is to support and promote employee recognition efforts.

The committee meets twice each year (more as needed) to select winners from a nomination round, maintain current recognition programs, and develop new initiatives.

Committee membership includes representation from the following categories:

  • Student Life
  • Employee Relations Council
  • Faculty
  • Non-Exempt Staff
  • Skills, Crafts, and Technical Staff
  • Human Resources

State Employee Suggestion Award Program

Do you have an idea that would save money and improve state government?

Submit your idea to the Employee Suggestion Award Program (ESAP). If your idea is selected and implemented, you could receive as much as $10,000 from the award board.
