STRIDE (Strategies and Tactics for Recruiting to Improve Diversity and Excellence) for Staff continues into 2020. STRIDE for Staff is modeled after STRIDE for Faculty which was created to revitalize efforts to hire and retain a diverse faculty.
The STRIDE for Staff sessions are coordinated by Learning and Organizational Development (L&OD). STRIDE for Staff incorporates current up-to-date statistics to increase our awareness of current employee demographics and incorporates academic research on the effects of bias and the benefits of a diverse workplace.
STRIDE for Staff attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Discuss the benefits and challenges of diversity.
- Discuss academic research on the effects of bias and the benefits of a diverse workplace.
- Identify and explore biases and blind spots.
- Participate in interactive exercises and discussions.
- Complete a step-by-step mock search.
Participants will leave with knowledge of how they can impact the diversity of their workplace, and will receive tips on how to create and maintain an inclusive workplace.
Five workshops are planned for 2020 that will support the efforts to hire a diverse staff and incorporate inclusive practices into candidate searches. Managers, search committee members, and those who work closely in hiring exempt and non-exempt staff are encouraged to attend this program.
